*Oil Smacked then Rebounds. Amid reports that Russia and Saudi Arabia adding production after last year’s cutbacks, WTI (West Texas Intermediate Crude) traded to below $66 after making a recent high at $72. Permian pipelines at bottleneck status indicates pipelines may gain pricing power.
*Italian Meltdown! Another government “collapse” in Italy led the equity markets to a global sell off led by European banks that began the week. The subsequent rebound with the Dow up over 300 points on Wednesday corresponded to the fact that Italy’s government frequently has a meltdown.
*U.S. Treasuries Still the World’s Go To Safe Haven. During the Italian meltdown, buyers of U.S. Treasuries pushed yields down over 15 basis points indicating that the world still reverts to U.S. Treasuries as a safe haven.
*Bill Gross “Bond King” Smacked Down! Bill Gross’ Unconstrained Bond Fund dropped 3% in a single day and is down 6% year to date. U.S. high yield bond funds raked in largest weekly inflow since December 2016.
*Cheniere Energy, Inc. Gets Exclusive Contract to Supply China’s Massive Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) for 100 Days. Cheniere’s shares and LNG shipper Golar LNG Limited spiked concurrent with the news. China is expected to grow to be the world’s largest LNG importer. Coal regulations force the growth.
*Canadian Government Buys Kinder Morgan’s Canadian Trans Mountain Oil Pipeline. The takeaway is that a pick up in pipeline merger and acquisitions is underway. Canada’s objective appears to be exportation to Asia.
*Tariffs and Trade: China was slapped with tariffs concurrent with discussion of intellectual property theft.
*U.S. Home Price Appreciation Cools.
*Microsoft, Adobe, and Other Technology Shares Make Record Highs with Distance.
